Dr. Marcus Lee

MBBS (Hons.) | Co-Founder & Functional Wellness Physician

Dr. Marcus Lee is a medical doctor whose approach to healthcare is grounded in the belief that true wellness extends beyond the treatment of symptoms to understanding the individual as a whole. As the Functional Physician at FUTURE Medical & Aesthetics, he is passionate about helping patients achieve better health, improve their quality of life, and pursue longevity through a personalised, evidence-informed approach to medicine.

Dr. Lee graduated with honours from the University of the West Indies in 2015, earning his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). He completed his medical internship at Mandeville Regional Hospital, followed by his Senior House Officer year within the South East Regional Health Authority, with clinical rotations at Spanish Town Hospital, St. Catherine Health Services and Kingston Public Hospital. He subsequently advanced to surgical residency training at the University Hospital of the West Indies before making a pivotal decision to enter military service.

In 2018, Dr. Lee was commissioned into the Jamaica Defence Force as a Captain and was promoted to the rank of Major in 2021. His military career culminated in his appointment as Force Medical Officer, where he led Medical Services and contributed to force health protection, medical oversight, and the implementation of health policies. He also served in important policy and organisational roles, including as a Gender Focal Point Officer and a Battalion Policy Focal Point Officer. His military service strengthened his leadership, strategic thinking, and commitment to protecting and improving the health of those under his care.

His transition into functional medicine was inspired by a growing desire to deliver a deeper, more meaningful standard of patient care. While attending a medical conference alongside his wife, an aesthetic physician and co-founder of FUTURE Medical & Aesthetics, Dr. Lee encountered a presentation entitled “Quality in Medicine”. Having experienced the demands of conventional clinical practice, where he could see as many as 60 to 70 patients in a day, the presentation challenged him to reflect on the difference between treating large numbers of patients and having the time to understand their individual health needs.

That moment became a turning point. Driven by a desire to explore a more comprehensive approach to healthcare, he connected with the presenter, a physician practising in Switzerland, and subsequently visited his clinic. The experience deepened his interest in functional medicine and prompted further independent research, professional education, and ongoing study. His commitment to learning continues to shape his evolving clinical approach.

As Dr. Lee and his wife reflected on the future of their practice, they recognised an important opportunity. Aesthetic treatments could address visible concerns, but lasting results and genuine wellbeing often required attention to the underlying factors influencing a person’s health. They envisioned a model of care that looked beyond the skin to consider metabolic health, nutrition, gut health, lifestyle, and the interconnected systems that contribute to overall wellbeing.

This vision led to the evolution of FUTURE Aesthetics into FUTURE Medical & Aesthetics, bringing functional medicine and aesthetic medicine together within a more integrated approach to patient care. Having played an instrumental role in the original vision and naming of FUTURE, Dr. Lee continues to help shape its philosophy and direction.

Today, as Functional Physician, Dr. Lee takes a whole-person approach to patient care, seeking to understand the factors that influence health rather than focusing solely on isolated symptoms or outward appearances. His work is guided by the principles of individualised care, continuous learning, and the pursuit of sustainable improvements in health and quality of life.

For Dr. Lee, the goal is not simply to help people look better, but to help them feel better, function better, and build a healthier foundation for the years ahead.
